Create and search for art using your mind

Introducing thoughtART Technology

A few years ago, deviantART teamed up with several university laboratories across the United States, and we are proud to finally announce the fruits of our efforts. Thanks to recent advancements in neurological science, we're unveiling a revolutionary new platform in artistic creation. Our device uses touch-sensitive pads built into your existing keyboard and mouse to monitor your brainwaves and transmit them directly to our site. Excited? Welcome to the new age of thoughtART Technology!

What is thoughtART?

It may sound like something from science fiction, but the technology behind thoughtART is actually quite simple. Each person has unique patterns mapped into their brains correlating with the cadence of the firing of their synapses. Our new platform taps into how the brain processes these synapses and translates them digitally. In the same way that you can "see" an image in your mind when starting on an artistic endeavor, this feature strives to create that right on the digital page without the artist lifting a finger!

The Browser-Brain Interface

When you connect to thoughtART, the technology syncs with your nervous system to discover your artistic style, preferred palette, and ideas that have been floating in your head that you just haven't had time to put to paper. Once connected, the system measures the pulses generated by your temporal lobe and your levels of acetylcholine to read the exact thoughts you're experiencing. The process is 100% harmless, and you will experience no discomfort while your brainmap is being generated.

Create with thoughtART
Happy April Fools' Day 2014!

Put aside your brushes, pencils, and tablets, because thanks to the round-the-clock efforts of deviantART's partnering science labs, you only need one tool to create the masterpiece you've always dreamed of: your mind. You'll never have to lift a brush again.

Search with thoughtART
Happy April Fools' Day 2014!

Take a break from creation and spend a few minutes getting inspired. Using the same state-of-the-art technology, deviantART has also calibrated the system to help discover the art of your dreams. Sit back with thoughtART Search, and let your brain tell you what it wants to see. (Although the process is completely safe, we recommend resting the creative brain at 30-minute intervals.)

Your Observations

Since this is a brand-new product, we'd love to hear your feedback! What type of art are you generating with thoughtART Create? What does your brain like to browse in thoughtART Search? Let us know!

Publishing Your Findings

Share your creations and findings in the comments on this article, and let the world see what the power of your mind can do.

DeviantART is proud to unveil a revolutionary new platform in artistic creation — thoughtART! Using touch-sensitive pads built into your existing keyboard and mouse, thoughtART technology monitors your brainwaves, transmitting them directly to our site to create and discover art like never before.

April fools? I think its a possibility. Get to work. You can do it. All anything is, is a combination of different existences within one place.

An existence being, a noun, idea, design, personality, being, a color even. All singular ideas in simplicity formulate to make a whole one in reality's physical or alternate realm space (astral plane). Anyways,... Animals have personalities as people do. Every person you see before you is a type of animal, creature, or has similarities there of to the creations that exist in our reality. They say your personality is much like the animal you like. The colors, tastes, foods, ideas, comfort zones all formulate the being that you are and the experiences associated with them in your life that formulate who you've become. It doesn't mean you'll stay that way because in the 4 phases of life,

Baby, Child, Teen, Adult is ever changing. What you eat, what you wear, the way you think, the way you talk, the words you use, the poise, the gestures, what you laugh at, and everything else,....even your body type and horoscope even to the day and year you were born on are apart of what makes you the you you are now. The strokes on the paper you use to draw,...the way you draw (which mostly looks like the artist's self or body type),....and what you first focus on when drawing make you the you you are now too.

( Example: Focus on head? or body when dealing with a character? Do you focus on architecture (background), atmosphere, or the character first? Or is it the feel? Do you need an idea or sense of story or compelling drama to make an art piece or do you work better freely to let your mind run free with imagination without a direct idea to focus or channel your artistic creativity through? Or does it matter not because money or others wanting you to is your fuel and drive to? Or are you just self motivated?)

The people you associate yourself with, the ideas you reject,...who you want to be, or hang around,......make you you as well as the improvements in your life too. These are all senses of art. Do you find real life cosmetology more fascinating that the strokes of art on paper, or do you find a liking more to art in physical space and form rather than viewing it through the mind's window of a confined space or a square? Some find a painting of the Mona Lisa more fascinating that the make-up that a real person wears.

What sport do you like? Do you like the aggressiveness of a fast paced sport like NASCAR or the more gracefulness of tennis? The elegance of ballet, that some don't consider a sport? Or the more aggressive takewondo and karate? Or the gracefulness of Tai Chi? Or is the medium between both hit gymnastics?

What's your favorite art? Abstract? or something more traditional in realism? or surrealism? Or would you prefer a more cartoon look, yet with a dramatic feel? Light or dark? or would Klecksography be more an approach for you? or the culinary arts? Art has many forms.

Eloquence and linguistics is an art form as well as any form of art. Ever heard of Language arts? Color-psychology is also an art.

Bottom line I was referencing to, is even though art crosses over to different cultures, and different cultures have their own meaning within their region of thought, there is still a universal approach to find the inner workings of a character. I can't find that directly but I'm sure all of you genius' at your universities may be able to.

What does a line mean to you? What does a circle mean to you? Which one doe you like better? .....

...WHAT?!!......An OCTAGON?!!!!! 8 sided circle?,...Well,...I prefer the 6 sided hexagon when opposed to the 8 of your octo. Why? Because its much more sleek, sharp, and classier I suppose. You Hex won't work on me, has far too many sides and closer to being a SQUARE for me to be infatuated with it. That's just not hip to me.

But when its all said and matter how complicated everything gets it everything goes right back to a circle and line. The basics.

Seeing this reminded me that I always tell to myself: "If someone like a doctor could actually see images of what's in my brain through a machine or something... They would go insane at the first glimpse xD either by too much information and creative ideas about the universe, or too much nonsensical crap :D
