Forum Features #41 - February: Buildings!Once again, the Community Relations team is here to feature the artworks of deviantART's beloved forumers! Once a month, we select one active member from the forums and we feature his or her gallery. This is someone we believe represents the forums well with both good forum-abilities and art.As we're kind (and awesome), we also decided to give an opportunity for everybody to get featured! Every month, we create a thread in the Deviation Thumbshare Forum with a particular theme. This thread is made into a sticky for easy access. All you have to do is post thumbs of your artwork that match the theme and, at the end of the month, we select our favorite thumbs from that thread and feature them in the next news article. Why You Should Still Be Experimenting As we began our trek into the world of art most of us spent a decent amount of time experimenting to find our niche. But for many artists, once they find their place and style they often stop listening for any other callings. What Exactly do You Mean by "Experiment". Trying new things - of course we should experiment and text our tools, that's one of the first steps to becoming an artist in learning what you're working with and how to use your resources and tools to produce the best outcome for your art. What this article is about however is going outside your style and technique. Why Should You Experiment? Experimenting is a crucial part of learning. It's also a giant piece of expanding, improving and adding to what you already have. Imagine if the first thing you created was all you ever did. I'd be taking photo after photo of the sunrise: two problems with that are I'm not a mining person
Please Think Before you Write Ok, so just throwing this out there, perhaps this will be an unpopular view, but I don't think I'm being unreasonable.I'd just like to mention publicly, that I, as well as artists in general, are not art vending machines. You don't type suggestions in, and then have a slot where artwork comes out for free . Important to Note: I am not addressing any individual in particular. If you think this is about *you* specifically ( whoever you are)- don't. This about the private notes I get, with alarming volume, where people feel they can simply request artwork from me for free. I get a *lot* of these. Which prompted me to post something about it. I usually just ignore them, or, if I feel particularly polite that day, I send them a note back saying I don't do requests. But they never stop o_O. And it's not that I mind suggestions in comments under artwork, such as: "Oh, I hope one day you will paint _________." or, "
dA adds new CSS attributes Skinners! Must read!Okay, as per the latest dA site update found here. CSS coders are now allowed to use 3 more properties to rock their journal skins. The properties are:1) content2) counter-increment3) counter-reset~~~~EXPLANATION~~~~Lets see what can we do with these new fancy stuffs! What does these attributes do?1) content--> it is used to insert generated content in your HTML (Journal body for DA). Don't worry, don't worry! I'll tell you what is this "generated" content!2) counter-increment --> it is used to insert numbers (or counters) to sections or sub-sections. I'll explain what "sections" and "sub-sections" are don't worry again!3) counter-reset --> it is used to reset the countersAll these 3 properties are generally interlinked and are used together. But the "content" property can be used alone and has some cool usage.~~~~"cont

Art We Heart: FlightArt We ♥ is a hand-selected art feature, chosen by deviantART staff members, showcasing art we believe the community will enjoy.:iconayame-kenoshi: Some thoughts from Toby (Ayame-Kenoshi)"If you could have any super power, what would it be?" I think it's a question we all have to answer at some point. We're innately curious about the unknown and enjoy diving into the depths of imagination. We know it's not possible, but we can't shake the question of, "What if?"I don't think my answer has changed since I was asked as a child. I never saw much need for invisibility. I don't think I would enjoy being a mind reader. And sure, shooting laser beams out of my hands would be fun, but there's something that I've always been drawn to more.I would like to fly.To me, flight represents freedom. It's the ability to travel around without borders, coming and going as you please. I initially associate it with being closer to nature, as well, somethin
How to Write Helpful Critiques/ FeedbackNow that I have been looking at several literature pieces a week, there aren't a whole lot of comments that provide the writers with feedback. So here's a guide that I thought might be useful for some people on how to provide helpful feedback and critiques. Before I begin, I would like to say that I have been a part of a wonderful writing group for the past four years. The writing club is where I first learned how to do a critique. I have also been taught some critique techniques during my college studies. In addition to the writing club and college classes, I have been doing my best to leave helpful feedback and critiques here on deviantART. This guide is based entirely off of my personal experience. As I think of more tips, I will be editing this guide.DO: Make sure to respond to any questions they have asked in the artist's descriptions. Be sure to find out how experienced they are a

Did You Know - Thumbs CodeThumbs CodeWhenever you do a feature or maybe want to link to a certain deviation the thumbs code is a very handy feature. It allows your viewers to see a smaller version of what you are referring to directly. But did you know that there are several ways to make thumbs appear? The most common way is to grab the thumbs code from the sidebar of a deviation. That way you will get a little preview no bigger than 150x150px.Another thing you can do is to create a big thumb. For that you just need to add 'big' to the thumbcode, like :bigthumb###:For our example it will look like this.Big thumbs will get no bigger than 300x300px.Alongside those and thanks to AddMedia and Sta.sh you also vary the size on your own.Either choose deviations from the AddMedia sidebar and make use of the transformation corners or use this code<b>
